Hearts of Gold - by Grace Hitchcock

Image
My Review Hearts of Gold by Grace Hitchcock is a captivating collection of three historical romance stories that will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside. The narratives are rich in detail, bringing to life the characters and the settings they inhabit. In the first story, The Bridal Shop, we meet Alice Turner, the ambitious owner of one of Charleston's finest bridal shops. The author skillfully portrays Alice's determination to never be dependent on a man after her father's imprisonment. Yet, despite her reservations about marriage, Alice reluctantly agrees to be her best friend's maid of honor. At the wedding, Alice catches the eye of a handsome groomsman who tries to convince her to open her heart again. In the second story, Miss Beaumont's Companion, we follow Aria St. Angelo, an Italian lady's companion who is coerced into posing as her employer's daughter at the Louisiana Governor's masquerade ball. Aria is initially hesitant, but she relen

Revenge - by Tamara G. Cooper

Image
My Review: I recently finished reading the book "Revenge" written by Tamara G. Cooper, and I really enjoyed it. The story revolves around Aaron, whose life falls apart after the sudden and strange death of his best friend. Despite the authorities ruling it as an accident, Aaron strongly believes that her death was a cold-blooded murder. Constantly hounded by the media and wrongly accused of causing his friend's death, Aaron desperately needs a place to hide. Fortunately, he inherits his great aunt's estate in East Texas which is secluded and surrounded by dense wilderness. To his surprise, he also discovers that his first love has recently moved back to the area. However, just as Aaron starts finding solace in this new environment, a woman's body is found on his property on the anniversary of his friend's death. This chilling discovery sends Aaron into a state of shock as he realizes that a ruthless killer is sending him a personal message - there is no esca

Mojave Man - by J.W. Gilbert

Image
My Review J.W. Gilbert's Mojave Man is an enthralling read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. It tells the story of Arcon Franklin, a man who is on the run from the authorities and looking for a way to escape their grasp. With the help of his rescuer, Elaina, he manages to flee to a survivalist compound, but soon realizes that it may not be the safe haven he thought it was. As the story unfolds, we see a tenacious reporter, hot on Arcon's trail, getting ever closer to exposing him. Meanwhile, Jesus himself intervenes, making his desires known and adding an extra layer of intrigue to the story. Arcon's foray into the outside world could be cut short, and he may have to return to ArcPoint, his confinement, whether he likes it or not. While I did feel that I missed out on some of the context, as I did not read the previous book, the overall experience of reading Mojave Man was spectacular. Gilbert's writing is captivating, and he does an e

Remain True - by Thomas Nye

Image
My Review I recently had the pleasure of reading 'Remain True: Amana' by Thomas Nye, and it was truly a delightful experience. The book takes us on a journey with Timothy Hayes, an author who relocates to the Amana Colonies amidst the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. Thomas Nye's vivid descriptions of the beautiful surroundings and the challenges of living in a pandemic-stricken world made the story come alive in my mind's eye. As the pandemic makes social interactions difficult for everyone, Tim finds it especially challenging. Even taking his pugs for a walk becomes an ordeal. He is frustrated by people's kindness and cannot seem to shake off his grumpiness. However, things start to change when he meets a woman who brings a new perspective to his life. What I loved most about this book was the way the author brought the characters to life. Each character was well-developed, and their comical interactions made me laugh out loud. The writing style was much more in-dept

Settlers and Toffs - by Caryl McAdoo

Image
My Review I recently had the pleasure of reading "Settlers and Toffs" by Caryl McAdoo, which is the second book in the New Beginnings series. The book was a delightful and engrossing read, with richly drawn characters that made the story come to life. The author's writing style was engaging and descriptive, allowing me to vividly imagine the characters and settings.    The story follows the journey of Ambrose Lee and Blaire, who set out to seek their fortune during the gold rush by heading west. They decide to open a hotel in Auburn, California, which becomes the backdrop for the many adventures and challenges they face. Adding to the complexity of the story is the arrival of a British Earl, who stays at their hotel, and the constant disruptions caused by mining booms. Despite the tough times, the characters in the book form deep and lasting friendships and even find love along the way. The author's ability to weave together these disparate threads into a cohesive

A Christmas at Jekyll Island Club - by Blossom Turner

Image
My Review: I recently had the pleasure of reading "A Christmas at Jekyll Island Club" by Blossom Turner. It was a truly delightful read! The story follows the life of Savannah Ensworth, a young heiress who is not interested in getting married, and Reverend Joseph Bennett, who is a man of God and doesn't want to have a woman hold him back from preaching the Word of God. The book chronicles their journey as they navigate through their fears and personal beliefs to find true love. At first, Savannah is not interested in God or church, but her best friend Elizabeth convinces her to meet the handsome Reverend who has all the women on Jekyll Island swooning. Savannah and Joseph are immediately drawn to each other, but they push their feelings aside due to their fear of commitment. They both agree to be just friends, but as they spend more time together, they both develop feelings for one another. Along the way, Joseph introduces Savannah to Christ and helps her to understand
